Iceland Elopement Guide - How to Elope in Iceland

You can choose from glaciers, waterfalls, beaches, volcanoes, and so much more, so if you want to elope in Iceland, this guide is for you!

Iceland Elopement Guide: Unveiling the Magic - How to Elope in the Land of Fire and Ice

Iceland is an absolute dream destination - with some of the most incredible scenery in the world, endless beauty, and plenty of remote places to explore, it makes for a great place to tie the knot. It’s also one of the most LGBTQ+ friendly elopement destinations in the world

You can choose from glaciers, waterfalls, black sand beaches, volcanoes, and so much more for your ceremony backdrop, so if you want to elope in Iceland, this guide is for you! We’ll talk about everything you need to know to get married in Iceland.

Set a Date for Your Iceland Elopement

Iceland is known for having some truly wild weather! While you can elope in Iceland year round, the experience you have will definitely be very different depending on the seasons.

Weather in Iceland

Summer is the best time to elope in Iceland if you want to hike or spend time outdoors, and July and August are usually your best bet for sunshine. Even then, Iceland’s weather is often wild and unpredictable! It rains pretty often, though summers are typically drier and you can get lucky with some sunny days.

It’s also important to know that if you want to head inland and explore the Highlands - Iceland’s remote, mountainous areas, the mountain roads are often only accessible in the summer! You will need a 4x4 to get there, and when they open and close depends on the weather and when the snow melts. Typically, they start opening up in May, and most roads will be open by July. They start closing in September, and most will be closed by the end of October.

Fall can be an underrated time to elope in Iceland - since summer is the busiest, waiting a little can give you some more privacy as you explore. Early fall weather is usually still warm, but often more rainy, and you can explore Iceland without the crowds!

Winter is harsh - but if you’re feeling really adventurous, you can have a unique elopement adventure. Nights are very long in the winter, but this means that you’re very likely to spot the Northern Lights. If you love snow, Iceland can be a lot of fun! But, be aware that in bad storms, a lot of the roads may close.

Spring, along with fall, can be a good time to tie the knot during shoulder season, when it’s not so busy! Weather usually starts to warm up in late spring, so while you’ll probably still get some rain, it can be a nice time to explore and see the waterfalls in full force.

Avoiding Crowds When You Elope in Iceland

Iceland has become a pretty popular destination for travelers. It’s easy to see why, but you probably want a little more privacy when you exchange vows! There are a few things you can do to avoid crowds when you elope in Iceland.

First, choosing an off the beaten path elopement location helps a ton! Places around the Ring Road (Iceland’s main highway) are often really popular, especially those in the south. If you head north, or go into the Highlands, you’ll get away from a lot of the hustle and bustle!

Being intentional with your wedding date is also a way to avoid crowds - summer is the busiest, so consider eloping right before or right after the peak. I also recommend tying the knot on a weekday, and planning your ceremony for sunrise or sunset!

The Best Places to Elope in Iceland

Everywhere you look in Iceland, there’s a beautiful view - so narrowing it down and choosing where to exchange vows can be a challenge! My job as an elopement photographer is to help you find the perfect spot, so each couple will get a personalized list of location recommendations that are a little off the beaten path. But until then, here are a few of the best places to elope in Iceland to help you start brainstorming!

A Waterfall

Iceland is known for its waterfalls - just driving down the highway, you’ll see one around every turn! The rushing water and dramatic cascade of a waterfall makes a gorgeous elopement backdrop, and you can choose from easy to reach spots to waterfalls that you need to hike to. Skogafoss is a popular, and beautiful waterfall not far from Reykjavik, and nearby you’ll find a short hike to the more secluded Kvernufoss!

A Black Sand Beach

Iceland’s beaches are dramatic, with black pebbles and lava rock formations on the shore. The most famous black sand beach in Iceland is Reynisfjara, but you can find plenty of more secluded beaches around the country! Beaches in Iceland aren’t the kind you’ll want to sunbathe on, but they offer a really unique view.

A Glacier

Tie the knot at the bottom of a glacier, or take an excursion and trek on the ice! There are lots of glaciers and ice caves to explore, and they make for some of the best places to elope in Iceland. Jökulsárlón is an amazing place, home to the famous Diamond Beach, where you can see pieces of ice floating off into the ocean.

How to Get Legally Married When You Elope in Iceland

To make things official in the eyes of the government, you’ll need to do some paperwork! All of your documents need to be in English or in a Scandinavian language, so if yours is in a different language, it’ll need to be translated. You’ll need to send copies of these documents to the National Registry Office in Reykjavik at least three weeks in advance, then you’ll need to show originals 5 business days before the ceremony.

Here’s what you need:

  • Marriage notification - this form can be obtained at the office

  • Birth certificate

  • Certificate of No Impediment - this certificate states that you’re unmarried and are able to get married. Some US states don’t have this document available, but you can ask about alternatives!

  • Proof of divorce or death of former spouse, if applicable

  • Passports

Things to Do When You Elope in Iceland

Eloping, especially abroad and somewhere as beautiful as Iceland, means that the ceremony is just one small part of your experience! You’ll likely be combining your wedding day with your honeymoon, so plan some amazing adventures during your stay. Here are some ideas for things to do when you elope in Iceland!

Go Hiking

Iceland has some of the most incredible landscapes in the world, and you can hike through mountains, on glaciers, behind waterfalls, through lava rocks, and so much more! If you love outdoor adventures, be sure to check out some of Iceland’s trails.

Snorkel Between Tectonic Plates

One unique adventure you can have in Iceland is snorkeling (or diving, if you’re certified), between tectonic plates! At Thingvellir National Park, you can see where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates split, creating a rocky fissure. If you don’t want to get in the water, you can explore the park and see it from land too!

Take a Helicopter Tour

The landscapes look amazing from up above too! For a one of a kind elopement experience, you can take a helicopter tour and fly over glaciers, beaches, volcanoes, and more. You can even land in a completely remote spot and exchange vows there!

A Full Day Oregon Elopement Itinerary

This guide will give you some ideas for your own adventurous Oregon elopement, and some tips to get the most out of your day!

Embark on an Unforgettable Adventure: A Full Day Oregon Elopement Itinerary - Discovering the Beauty of the Pacific Northwest

Oregon is an unbelievable place, with diverse scenery, unique adventures, and plenty to do! For couples who want to get rid of the “fluff” and get married in a way that actually feels right, and to focus on what really matters, an Oregon elopement is the perfect way to tie the knot.

This guide will give you some ideas for your own adventurous Oregon elopement, and some tips to get the most out of your day!

Why Should You Have a Full Day Oregon Elopement?

An elopement isn’t just a ceremony and a few photos - the day you get married deserves all day! But, a lot of couples have trouble imagining what a full day elopement can look like, and what they can do for all that time.

But the truth is, it’ll go by so much faster than you think! Oregon has plenty of adventures - and the day you get married deserves to be celebrated. If you were having a big wedding, you wouldn’t limit it to just an hour or two, right? Downsizing and choosing to get married in a way that means something to you is no reason to change that!

A full day Oregon elopement allows you to really enjoy every minute without rushing, and it gives you plenty of time for fun activities and adventures that you’ll remember forever.

What to Do During Your Full Day Oregon Elopement

A full day elopement can last up to 10 or 12 hours - so here’s a breakdown of how your day might look!

Get Ready at a Cute Airbnb

Your elopement day will start with getting ready. The place you stay in is a part of your Oregon elopement experience, so choose a cozy home away from home! There are cute Airbnbs all over Oregon.

Here are a few great Airbnbs to consider for your elopement:

Ceremony

The ceremony is the main event of your Oregon elopement - the moment where you tie the knot and officially marry your best friend! I’ll help you find the perfect spot to exchange vows - in Oregon you can choose between views of the redwoods, cascading waterfalls, and rocky beaches (or you can even see all three in one day), so there’s no shortage of amazing locations.

The Southen Oregon Coast is a little more rugged and less developed, with plenty of amazing cermeony locations perfect for an adventurous elopement. It tends to be less popular, so you’ll have a much easier time finding some privacy as you exchange vows!

Another way to get the place all to yourself is to plan your ceremony for sunrise! This is when most people won’t be out and about yet, so even the most popular places are likely to be empty. The lighting will also be absolutely amazing! Sunset is another great time for a ceremony - though it likely won’t be as empty, it’ll be less busy than the middle of the day, and you’ll have that gorgeous golden glow.

Oregon Adventures

The most exciting thing about eloping is that you get to plan an adventure that’s unique to you, and one that reflects who you are as a couple! It can be something you love doing together, or something new you want to try - no matter what you have in mind, there are plenty of uniquely Oregon adventures to consider for the day you get married.

Here are just a few ideas:

  • Take a hike through the redwoods that ends in a gorgeous view of the ocean

  • Say your vows in front of a waterfall and go for a dip afterwards

  • Paddle board on a sparkling blue lake

  • Rock climb in the desert

  • Kayak down a river

  • Have a picnic on the beach

  • Ride an ATV on sand dunes on the coast

  • Hop in the water and go surfing

  • Ski down Mount Hood in the winter

Sample Full Day Oregon Elopement Timeline

To give you an idea of what your full day Oregon elopement can look like, here is a sample timeline!

4:00 After a cup of coffee and breakfast, hair and makeup begins

5:30 After you’re both done getting ready, you hop in the car and drive to the trailhead

Tips for Your Full Day Oregon Elopement

Here are some tips to keep in mind as you plan your full day Oregon elopement!

Embrace the Weather

Oregon, especially close to the coast, is known for moody weather - and the best way to deal with it is to just embrace it! The clouds add gorgeous drama and create nice even lighting, and they look great in photos. Even the rain can be stunning, as droplets catch the light and can look like lieelt fairy lights. It’s all part of the adventure, so bring some rain gear and some layers, and enjoy whatever weather Oregon brings!

Choose a Location You Love

One of the most exciting things about your Oregon elopement is that you have so many options for beautiful locations. Be sure to choose a spot that you absolutely love for when you exchange vows! Brookings, and the Southern Oregon Coast, is  my personal favorite, as you’ll have amazing views of the ocean, and the area is more remote and less developed than more popular spots in the north.

Book an Oregon Elopement Photographer

As your elopement photographer, my job is to help you have the ultimate adventure! Your full day Oregon elopement should be custom tailored just for you, so that you can get married exactly the way you want to. I’ll give you personalized location recommendations, create a timeline for your day, and everything else you need for your adventure.

Ireland Elopement Guide - How to Get Married in Ireland

This guide will tell you all about planning an Ireland elopement - from finding the perfect location to making your marriage official!

Ireland Elopement Guide: Unveiling the Emerald Isle - How to Get Married in Enchanting Ireland

Quaint villages surrounded by lush greenery, stunning coastlines, and rich history make Ireland the perfect place to tie the knot. Whether you've been there before or you’ve been dreaming of the day you'll be able to explore the Irish countryside, there's so much to love about eloping in Ireland!

This guide will tell you all about planning an Ireland elopement - from finding the perfect location to making your marriage official!

Ireland is also an LGBTQ+ friendly place to get married! For a list of some other countries/locations to get married that are LGBTQ+ friendly CLICK HERE.

Set a Date for Your Ireland Elopement

Choosing your elopement date is an important part of planning your big day. The weather in Ireland is pretty mild year-round, so you'll probably make your decision based on the crowds and activities available in each season!

Weather in Ireland

Ireland's weather is pretty much the same year-round - it rains practically every other day, rarely freezes, and almost never gets above 68 degrees Fahrenheit. If you're prepared for the rain, the weather is totally manageable - they say to be prepared for "four seasons in one day" year-round. Even though the temperatures are mild, each season brings a little different feel, so I'll share what to expect.

The Irish winter is a little chilly but doesn't typically get cold enough to snow - but, this is the wettest season! As long as you're not scared away by a little rain, winter is a great time to visit Ireland. The nights can be long - perfect for stargazing on a clear night!

The warmest - and driest - time in Ireland is summer, but it doesn't ever get unbearably hot. Rain in the summer is more sporadic, but once the clouds clear out, the blue skies are a beautiful contrast to the lush greenery.

Spring and fall in Ireland are both so full of color! The weather is still pretty average in spring and fall, but you'll find fewer crowds. In the spring, wildflowers cover the hills, little lambs are found in practically every field, and the rainy days bring tons of rainbows to the skies - if you're lucky, you might be able to follow one to find a pot of gold! Fall brings warm colors to the landscape, the wildlife begins to prepare for the winter, and the nights bring generally clear skies for watching the stars or trying to spot the rare Northern Lights.

Avoiding Crowds When You Elope in Ireland

One of the best things about choosing to elope is being able to have a private ceremony without an audience there to watch while you say your vows, so knowing how to avoid crowds when you elope in Ireland is helpful to keep your ceremony more private!

If you want to avoid packed hikes and beaches, it's best to visit in the shoulder seasons. The warmer weather of summer normally brings in the most crowds - July and August are the busiest months for visiting Ireland - so you'll want to plan more carefully if you visit in the summer.

When you elope, there are a couple of things you can do to avoid the crowds at any time of the year! Planning your ceremony for mid-week can help you avoid an accidental photo bomber when you say your vows. If you shoot for having a sunrise or sunset elopement, you'll usually find fewer people checking out the view - plus, imagine eloping with the sun on the horizon behind you!

The Best Places to Elope in Ireland

Choosing a destination elopement means you can pick practically anywhere to have your ceremony! Picture your perfect elopement day, whatever that means for you. Do you imagine feeling the gentle sea breeze while you say your vows? Or do you dream of eloping under an altar made of evergreen trees? Ireland has a variety of places to tie the knot, so here's an idea of some of the best places to elope in Ireland and some places to stay nearby!

The Cliffs of Moher

ireland-elopement

Overlooking the Atlantic, the Cliffs of Moher stretch for 9 miles on the coastline of southwestern Ireland. The famous steep edges of the cliffs are a spectacular place to elope - you'll find tons of places along the 11-mile Cliff Walk to have your ceremony and watch the waves crash against the cliffside. If you're looking for a romantic place to stay, you can watch the sunset over the Aran Islands at this beautiful cottage or go back in time when you stay in this quaint 200-year-old cottage.

Dunluce Castle

Step back in time when you elope in the ruins of a medieval castle in Northern Ireland. A stone bridge over the sea, the magical "Mermaid's Cave," and steep cliffs give an incredible backdrop for your day. While you can't have your ceremony at the ruins themselves, you can rent out one of the farms surrounding the castle and then go to the ruins for some photos afterward! After your elopement, settle in at the Smugglers Inn for incredible views of the ocean or stay at the Apple Barn for a cozy farmhouse retreat.

Killarney National Park

The historical Muckross Abbey stands surrounded by dense woodlands, the 3 Lakes of Killarney, and rugged mountains in Killarney National Park. Take a hike through the trees or enjoy a ride in a traditional jaunting car (the original Irish buggy) when you elope at Killarney National Park! You can stay nearby at this gorgeous riverside chalet, just a 25-minute walk to the park, or if you're looking for a more rustic retreat, cozy up by the fire at this adorable stone cottage.

How to Get Legally Married During Your Ireland Elopement

The logistics of getting your marriage license overseas are a little complicated, so it's usually easier to sign your papers on your home turf. If you want to get legally married when you elope in Ireland, there are a few steps you'll need to take depending on where on the island you plan to elope.

Regardless of where you decide to elope in Ireland, you'll need to give notice about your marriage in advance and have a registered officiant and two witnesses at your wedding. Northern Ireland is part of the UK, so you'll take the steps to get legally married in the UK. The steps to get your marriage license in the Republic of Ireland (the southern part) are different, so be sure to brush up on marriage laws after you choose an elopement location!

Things to Do During Your Ireland Elopement

When you elope overseas, saying your vows is a small part of your celebration. When you're in Ireland, take the chance to make your elopement an adventure - learn about the history of Ireland at one of the thousands of castle ruins, or hike to see stunning views to make your elopement adventure anything you can imagine!

Road Trip the Wild Atlantic Way

The Wild Atlantic Way runs through 9 counties on the west coast of Ireland - 7 are in the Republic of Ireland, and 2 are in Northern Ireland. It's a whopping 1,500 miles long and takes at least 4 or 5 days to drive the entire trip. I think it's better to choose a section of it to explore, or take about 2 weeks to drive the whole thing if you really want to see all the incredible sights!

Explore the Castles

The history in Ireland is extremely rich, with about 30,000 castles and ruins remaining, there's so much to explore! Check out the science center at the Blackrock Castle in County Cork or the remains of McDermott's Castle on a small island in Lough Key.

Go Hiking

Ireland has an incredibly diverse landscape with rolling hills, rugged mountains, cliffs along the sea, and dense woodlands! With hundreds of developed trails for hiking, there's a little something for everyone. Take a coastal walk down the Giants Causeway, or have a picnic by the Glencree River on your hike through the Wicklow Mountains - the possibilities are endless!

Ireland Elopement Packages

Planning a destination elopement can be super overwhelming. Between location scouting, timeline planning, and figuring out the logistics of a visa, it seems like you'll never figure it all out! That's why my Ireland elopement packages are curated just for you, to make sure your elopement is full of magical moments and free of stress! I’ll take care of all of it, so all you have to do is be present with each other and enjoy the day.

Italy Elopement Guide - How to Elope in Italy

In this guide, I'll tell you everything you need to know to elope in Italy, from choosing the perfect date to finding a spot to exchange vows!

Italy Elopement Guide: Unveiling La Dolce Vita - How to Elope in Enchanting Italy

As a country full of romance, beautiful architecture, and some of the best food (and wine) in the world, Italy is a top destination for elopements! There's so much to do and so many incredible places to see when you elope in Italy - explore the streets of Venice by vespa or gondola, hike through the peaks of the Dolomites, or eat your way through the Italian countryside. In this guide, I'll tell you everything you need to know about planning an elopement in Italy - from choosing the perfect date to finding the best places to exchange vows!

The Best Time to Elope in Italy

One of the first things you'll do when planning your elopement is set a date! Choosing the right season for your big day can help you prepare for what your elopement will look like on the day of your ceremony. And, since so many places in Italy are popular vacation destinations, knowing when and how to avoid crowds means you can have a little more privacy.

Weather in Italy

In general, Italy is a warm country with a high humidity because it's surrounded by the sea, except for the mountains - so you should check out the weather for your specific spot when you decide where you want to elope!

The farther south you go, the warmer it gets! Summers are extremely hot in places like Sicily, but the northern mountain ranges get lots of rain and thunderstorms. It's a great time to swim in mountain lakes or take a dive in the ocean, but the streets are usually crowded, and it’s a popular time to visit.

In the winter, it snows in the Alps and Dolomites - even sometimes as far south as Tuscany. The south rarely sees snow, but from November until April it can be pretty rainy. Winter is a good time to visit southern Italy since it's still pretty warm, but make sure to bring layers or an umbrella!

Spring and fall are some of the best times to elope in Italy - fewer crowds and mild weather mean you'll be able to comfortably explore some of the popular destinations without overheating or being too cold. Keep in mind that high elevation spots in the mountains are often snowy from around October to June, so be prepared if you’re planning to visit the peaks!

Avoiding Crowds When You Elope in Italy

When you head to a popular destination like Italy for your elopement, you'll find a lot of other visitors wanting to experience its beauty too! You probably don't want a bunch of strangers crowding around while you say your vows, so here are a few tips on how to avoid photo bombers when you elope.

Summer is the most popular season to visit Italy, and spring and fall are the best times to visit if you want to avoid crowds - you'll see fewer people, but you'll still get warm, comfortable weather for hiking in the countryside or learning about the rich history of ancient Rome.

Sunrise or sunset elopements are another great way to avoid a crowd! There's typically fewer people out and about earlier and later in the day - plus, having the sun rise or set behind you during your ceremony is so dreamy. Weekday elopements are also a great option, since people are usually busy mid-week, so hikes, beaches, and even the more tourist-y areas are all a bit less crowded.

The Best Places to Elope in Italy

Choosing where to elope is one of the most exciting parts of planning your elopement, whether you want to hike through the mountains of northern Italy, lounge on the beaches of the southern coast, or explore the quaint countryside villages. Here are a few ideas, and some of the best places to elope in Italy!

The Dolomites

elope in italy

Eloping in the Dolomites can feel like a fairytale - with brilliant blue lakes, charming villages, and picturesque mountains. Whether you want to hike the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, rent a wooden boat on Pragser Wildsee, or hit the slopes in Marmolada - there's so much to do! After a day of skiing, retreat from the slopes in Marmolada at this adorable rustic chalet or unwind in a sauna at the Moseralm hotel, just steps from the Carezza ski area.

Amalfi Coast

elope in italy

South of Naples, colorful towns can be found nestled between the rugged coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the towering cliffs of the Lattari Mountains - the Amalfi Coast is perfect for an idyllic coastal elopement! The views are incredible, with miles of ocean and adorable houses that dot the coastline. You can wake up to a view of the sea, just steps from the rocky beaches found on the coast! Stay at this apartment with a terrace, just minutes from restaurants and the beach, or soak in the pool at the luxurious Ravello Art Resort, built on the rocky cliffs of the coast with comfortable hotel rooms or apartments.

Elba Island

elope in italy

Isola d'Elba is a quaint, tropical island off the coast of Northwest Italy. Though it's only 12 miles wide, you'll find a variety of landscapes - from high mountain roads surrounded by lush Mediterranean forests to the red sand beaches on the coast. The only way to get there is by ferry from Torremar or Moby, but it's only a 40 minute ride! And this means that Elba Island is t less busy than some of the other islands, so it makes a great elopement destination.

There are so many things to do, so stay a few days (or weeks), and you can rent this apartment with a pool in Lacona or go glamping with a view in the mountains of Capoliveri.

Bonus:

I’ve also written a blog on getting married in Lake Como, CLICK HERE to read it!

How to Get Legally Married in Italy

When you elope in Italy, it's usually easier to sign the papers at home. Getting legally married in Italy as a U.S. citizen is a bit of a complicated process - including extra steps at home and when you get there. Unless one of you is baptized in the Catholic church, you'll have to do a civil ceremony officiated by the mayor. On top of your passport and birth certificate, you'll need to prove you can legally get married in the state you live in, and a declaration of intention to marry in the city your elopement is in. If you want to say your vows and make it official on the day you elope in Italy, you can check out the U.S. embassy website for more information on how to get married overseas.

Things to Do When You Elope in Italy

Now that you've decided where you'll get married, it's time to think about how you'll turn your elopement into an adventure! When you head across the pond for your elopement, you'll probably want to explore some of the incredible things that Italy has to offer and, as they say, "Do as the Romans Do."

Take a Gondola Ride

What's more romantic than a sunset gondola ride through the canals of Venice? There are tons of gondola tours available on the Grand Canal throughout the main tourist areas of the city - you just go up to one of the gondoliers to ask for a ride! The boats typically hold up to 5 passengers, but you can reserve a private ride if you want to keep it just the two of you. For a more quiet ride, head away from areas that have water taxis and vaporettis.

Go Wine Tasting

Wineries are everywhere in Italy - from the Piedmont region to Sicily, you'll find some of the best wines in the world. Sicily has more vineyards than every other region of Italy, making it the best place to visit if you're hoping to do some wine tasting - every region has something to offer, though! Whether you visit Tuscany, Puglia, or Veneto, you'll have a unique experience with plenty of different types of wine for every palette.

Eat!

Italy is the perfect place for a culinary adventure - taste fresh risotto, try some sea urchin roe, and pick up a handmade cannoli for dessert. While you'll find good eats everywhere, the Emilia-Romagna region is a peaceful foodie haven - home of parmesan cheese, balsamic vinegar, tortellini, and even gelato!

Planning your elopement is a big task! Finding the perfect spot for your ceremony, booking your flights, and figuring out your marriage license can all seem overwhelming - that's why my elopement packages in Italy are uniquely curated just for you, and I'll be there every step of the way to make sure you have the best day ever. Grand Teton Elopement Guide - Elope at Grand Teton National Park

This guide will tell you everything you need to know to plan a Grand Teton Elopement in the incredible national park!

From winding rivers through valleys of evergreens, to pink sunrises against towering mountains, Grand Teton National Park is full of beautiful landscapes. For many adventurous couples,  a Grand Teton elopement is the perfect way to tie the knot!

From choosing the day you'll say "I do" to picking the perfect spot for your ceremony, I’ve got you covered! This guide will help you figure out all the details, and tell you everything you need to know to get married in Grand Teton National Park.

Weather & Seasons at Grand Teton National Park

Choosing the date of your elopement is an important step in planning your perfect wedding day. Here’s what you can expect throughout the year, and things you can do in each season!

Winter Elopements at Grand Teton National Park

Snow drapes the Grand Tetons in the winter, making for a magical experience. Though most of the roads and campgrounds are closed, winter is the best time for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing - if you're the adventurous type, there's primitive winter camping near the Colter Bay Visitor Center in the winter. Since a lot of the park is closed to cars, there aren't as many people around which means, while you can't have your ceremony here, some of the best photo locations are a lot more private!

Spring Elopements at Grand Teton National Park

During the spring, there's usually still a bit of snow, so many roads don't open up until May 1st. You can still go snowshoeing and cross-country skiing early in the season, or wait until later in the season when you can go hiking and have your ceremony at the park.

Summer Elopements at Grand Teton National Park

Summer in the Grand Tetons is a perfect time for an elopement. In higher elevations, you might still find some snow, but by late July it's usually all melted - meaning it's a great time to hike any of the trails in the park! The warmer weather means more crowds at the park, so to get some more privacy, plan for a sunrise or sunset elopement, and try to pick a date that falls on a weekday.

Fall Elopements at Grand Teton National Park

Fall is a great time to elope in Grand Teton National Park - oranges and reds begin to frame the mountains, creating an unforgettable landscape! If you visit in September, you'll be able to see the park before it's covered in snow, but after the height of crowds have left the park after Labor Day. A fall elopement means there will still be moderate weather for hiking in Grand Teton - check out Paintbrush Canyon or the Teton Crest Trail!

Grand Teton Elopement Locations

At Grand Teton National Park, if your ceremony is less than 12 people, you can have your ceremony anywhere - however, even with a smaller ceremony, if you’re hiring a photographer (which you should!), you’re still limited to the pre-approved locations.

If you have your heart set on a certain spot that's not on this list, we can definitely adventure around the park to take photos after the ceremony. Here are the 6 locations where you can have your Grand Teton National Park elopement.

Schwabacher Landing

Sitting on the edge of the beaver ponds, Schwabacher Landing is one of the most beautiful elopement locations in Grand Teton National Park. The Teton Range perfectly reflects in the clear alpine lakes on a clear day, and they shine as the sunrise hits them each morning. This location is the least busy midday, but it's worth it to say your vows at one of the best sunrise views in Grand Teton!

Mormon Row

Once home to two settler farmers, Mormon Row is a historic site that gives visitors a look into the early 1900s western farming community. The historic buildings are set on wide-open fields, with views of the eastern front of the Tetons in the background. The North features an adorable pink stucco house and the South has a rustic wooden barn - both perfect backdrops for any elopement. Shoot for a sunrise or sunset elopement to avoid the crowds here, since this is a popular spot for other park visitors!

Mountain View Turnout

A field of flowers coupled with a view of the Grand Tetons in the background makes any elopement feel like a fairy tale. This location is usually much less busy, so you don't have to worry about crowds!

Glacier View View Turnout

At Glacier View Turnout, you'll find an unobstructed view of 3 of the Grand Tetons’ incredible glaciers - Middle, Teepee, and Teton Glaciers. Saying your vows in a field of sagebrush with the Tetons behind you is really a dream come true for any couple.

Snake River Overlook

One of the most popular locations in the Grand Tetons is Snake River Overlook - with the curves of the Snake River and the Grand Tetons in the distance, it's not hard to see why! A sunrise elopement will help you avoid the crowds, and if you're lucky, you might even get some pink clouds and the moon setting behind the Tetons.

Colter Bay Swim Beach

If you've always dreamed of a lakeside wedding, look no further than Colter Bay Swim Beach. The rocky shores of Jackson Lake are the perfect location to say "I do." There are views of the Tetons in the distance and who doesn't love a beach wedding? This is one of two swim beaches at Grand Teton National Park, so it’s great if you want to get in the water!

How to Get Legally Married During Your Grand Teton Elopement

Now that you've thought about when and where you want to have your elopement, it's time to do a bit of legal stuff to make your marriage official. In Wyoming, couples are required to show up to the county clerk's office together to pick up their marriage license. When you go to pick up your license, you'll need to bring your ID, a filled-out copy of Wyoming's Marriage License Questionnaire, and $30. There's no waiting period in Wyoming, so as soon as you get your license, you're ready to have your ceremony!

The closest office to Grand Teton National Park is in Jackson, WY. You'll need to make an appointment to get your license, and because it's a popular place for people to say "I do," make your appointment early and give yourself a little time before your ceremony in case you run into any hiccups in the process.

To make your marriage official, you need to have an officiant and two witnesses to sign your license. An officiant can be anybody who is legally able to officiate a wedding, so you can hire somebody or have someone you know get ordained through the Universal Life Church!

Grand Teton Wedding Permits

Having your ceremony at Grand Teton National Park isn't as simple as showing up and saying your vows. On top of paying your entrance fee, you'll need to get 2 types of permits to have a Grand Teton elopement - a Reserved Site-Specific Ceremony Permit and a Portrait Service Commercial Use Authorization Permit (CUA) - so let's talk about how to get those.

To get into Grand Teton National Park, each car must pay an entrance fee of $35 and your pass is good for 7 days. If you have an America The Beautiful Pass, it'll waive your entrance fees to the park - the pass costs $80 and gets you into every national park in the country for an entire year!

For all wedding photos, you'll need a $300 Portrait Service CUA permit. Your photographer will need to apply for this permit at least 30 days before your ceremony. For the ceremony, you'll need a reserved site-specific ceremony permit for $200. You'll need to apply at least 30 days in advance, so I'd suggest applying as soon as you set your date - the NPS accepts applications starting in February each year.

What is an LGBTQ+ Friendly Destination Wedding Location?

Before I get into the list of destination wedding locations, what makes a place LGBTQ+ friendly?

First, the ability to get legally married. More and more countries are passing legislation to allow same sex couples to tie the knot, and all of these LGBTQ+ friendly destination wedding locations are places where your marriage will be legally recognized.

But, while legal recognition is amazing, another huge factor in determining whether a place is an LGBTQ+ friendly destination wedding location is safety - is being gay generally accepted, and will you be able to enjoy your elopement and your honeymoon without worrying about any negative reactions?

All of these LGBTQ+ friendly destination wedding locations are generally considered safe for couples of all genders and orientations, and you will be able to get legally married!

Denmark is a gorgeous place to elope, with scenery that includes rolling hills, lush forests, cliffs over the ocean, and sandy beaches! It’s also considered one of the happiest countries in the world, with friendly locals and a laid back atmosphere - all of which makes it one of the best LGBTQ+ friendly destination wedding locations!
